I was in serious doubt which book to buy: this one (the Shadowhunter's Guide) or the City of Bones: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion. What drew me to this book was: "Delve deep into the world of the Shadowhunters with this ultimate guide" and "Fans of the movie won't want to miss this must-have guide"Right. Well, maybe fans of the movie, but the movie isn't out yet, and maybe I am just not that big of a fan, because this book proved to be rather different from what I had expected. It is actually a picture book, with summaries of the characters, setting, and the story of the City of Bones movie/book.If you have read the book(s) you probably know all this and more.It was interesting to have a kind of preview of the movie, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that two well-known English actors play Luke and Valentine. I also like the look of Magnus Bane. (I probably could have got that from the website, if I had taken the time before checking out this book.) However, the names of the actors are not given.For someone who hasn't read the books, it is an informative little souvenir guide.For me, the most interesting chapter was the one with the runes, because when I was reading the books I didn't get a clear picture in my head of what they would look like. I pictured them a bit more like the Norse runes, but these are more beautiful.However, one chapter is no reason for me to keep this book. I have returned it, and ordered the Official Illustrated Movie Companion, after all.
